Spiraea gold flame

This is a plant that’s grown for its foliage. It flowers in mid spring, the usual pink umbels that you would expect from Spiraea but the outstanding feature of this plant is the colour of its new foliage. The leaves emerge with a rich orange hue, fade to a soft yellow then mid green. Regular pruning will encourage new growth. I often prune mine prior to its flowering to encourage new foliage rather than pink flowers.

Goldflame sits really well with summer flowering perennials such as Salvia marine blue or Geum mrs bradshaw.

This is a deciduous shrub to 1m that will need protection from hot summer sun.
