Primula vulgaris

The old hedge row primula has more chance of surviving in Australian gardens than any other species. This primula is summer dormant it shrinks down to just rhizomes during the hot weather. A cool position beneath deciduous trees suits it best. Primula like to be divided once every 3-4 years I do this just as they’re beginning to grow in late autumn, if you don’t divide them  the plant will weaken and eventually die out. There are numerous cultivars but the species seems to be the most resilient for me.
