Physocarpus opulifolius dark leaf

This one is a chance seedling from a friends garden. It differs from the usual dark leaf cultivars in that the new growth is a copper colour then fades to the usual burgundy.

Physocarpus are good textural shrubs with interesting leaf form and colour. The flowers in spring are white and plentiful. These shrubs respond well to pruning, it would make a good informal deciduous hedge.

Protection from scorching heat and wind is advised.
